Sydoc UK – one of the leading providers of Electronic Data Capture services to
UK business – chose South Yorkshire as the base for the next phase of its expansion
in Summer 2004, citing the area’s growing service economy as a main reason for
its decision.
Sydoc, which also has an operation in Plymouth, opened a new scanning and data
management facility at Manvers, near Rotherham in Autumn 2004 as a base to service
clients in the Midlands and the North.
Its expansion was aimed at capitalising on a market trend for greater outsourcing
of data capture by both private and public sector companies. The move was facilitated
by Renaissance South Yorkshire.
Speaking about the reasons for the move, Peter Gawen, Sydoc’s Managing Director,
said:
“We needed to be closer to our growing client base. South Yorkshire is ideally
placed to help us serve the eastern side of the country, being close to the A1,
M1 and M62 and well placed to serve the North Midlands, Yorkshire and Lancashire.
“Our key customer targets are Local Authorities, which have an increasing drive
towards implementing e-government, and the financial services sector. The South
Yorkshire area and around is a growing centre for banks and building societies,
their back office functions and call centres. The new location gives us the opportunity
to target these sectors while offering a strong regional presence.
“The move means that we should be able to double the sales we receive from capture
services and, due to the size and scope of the premises we will be opening, we
should be able to attract larger scale projects than before. We received excellent
support from Renaissance South Yorkshire, both in terms of looking for the most
suitable premises and in attracting the level of grant that we need to support
our growth.”
Sydoc’s decision demonstrates South Yorkshire’s capability to host companies
from all over the service sector and to help them achieve their growth plans.
The company also received grant funding through the Objective 1 Investment Enhancement
Fund - which is administered by Yorkshire Forward – and help from the Rotherham
Metropolitan Borough Council both to find the most appropriate premises and assist
in recruiting new staff via its JobMatch service.
The company has a blue-chip client list, and has acted for AT&T, Barclays
Bank, easyJet and The Land Registry among others. Sydoc is part of the DICOM
Group, the world leader in electronic data capture, which operates in 23 countries.
